Inside Sedona: Mosaics
How to create interior space reflecting the external beauty of Sedona.

Sedona, AZ -- Mosaics have been around since ancient times and have preserved well through the centuries.
While the structures around them crumbled,
many survived the ravages of time and today are considered art by
aficionados and are displayed in museums as well as high-end homes
around the globe.
When I studied mosaics at Luciana Notturni's Mosaic Art School in Ravenna,
Italy, I chose animal motifs as the subject of my final project and
created a mosaic image of
hunted deer; a copy of an actual mosaic recovered from Herculaneum,
a town, like Pompeii, that was buried under the volcanic ashes of
Vesuvius.

Today Ravenna, a Mecca for the art of mosaic making, houses many
artists that offer their creative works all over the world.
Sicis, a firm that commissions Ravenna artists, came up with the
series of mosaics titled "Circus.”

The colorful images of lion, puma, kangaroo, gorilla, bear, etc.,
made with glass pieces on transparent background, reflect the modern
works of Andy Warhol.
Each mosaic that contains square pieces of different sizes glass, is
made by hand using traditional methods, and offered in sections for
easier shipping and handling. The sections are numbered for easy
installment according to included scheme.
Mosaics can be used in any space. The key is to choose the right
location so it could be viewed from a longer distance.
It could be placed at the end of a hallway or right opposite the
entrance into the living room or even in the bathroom. Its view
shouldn't be obstructed. The larger the size, the more effective it
is.
The collections offered by Sicis do not limit the sizes of their
mosaics and offers them in full size or in fragments -- for example
only the certain motif taken from a larger image.
The mosaic may be commissioned and produced according to client's
own design or the photograph and the price is based on the demanded
accuracy of the image that involves the different sizes of pieces
used.
For one of my clients I designed the mosaic of gecko hunting a
dragonfly that was installed on the floor of his living room area.

The location was chosen based on visibility. An
image in that area would never be covered by furniture and could be
seen from the main entrance into the living room as well as from the
kitchen and the hallway leading to bedrooms.
The mosaic was chosen to replace an old carpeted floor, and the
tiles were strategically laid out at a 45 degree angle so that the image
could be placed at
the precise location.
As a result, the mosaic added value to the house, reflected by the
higher price received by the owners when the house was sold.
Mosaics are beautiful, resilient, classy, and artistic. Mosaics can
enhance any home and demonstrate the owner’s taste for quality in
their homes.
